"Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your
own teeth."
--- Alan Watts
What is going on?
Our story is evolving. Nomads Café is a unique place
for indepedent folks to connect. Hopefully the place will inform,
inspire, and/or promote good things happening in business, politics,
music, arts, and community. Connecting people across borders with
alternative art and media is the main idea.
Another goal is to offer a diversity of information
in order to help further new perspectives, informed discussion and
positive change. Just a goal. There's always room for argument too
;) Knowing the truth about the good as well as the bad is becoming
increasingly important in a world that seems reluctant to address
issues that affect everyday people all over the globe. And sharing
information and ideas on a global level might enable us to overcome
common obstacles to change. Overcoming hatred and ignorance will
always be one of the toughest things, but solving common problems
and seeing mutual benefits might build a little bit of that brother
& sisterhood thing. More tolerance, acceptance and respect would
be a plus.
Too bad those pluses are so out at the
White House. Tolerance, diplomacy and accountability are all but
out the window there. Denying the root causes of terrorism, ignoring
poverty and pollution problems, discarding long-term energy solutions-
have all become standard policy. The focus instead is well-outlined
by the Administration as The
Project for the New American Century. Check it out if
you haven't already. This "neo con" agenda is hardly democratic
and widely-criticized as nothing less than global domination. Bad
idea. Narrow-minded, impractical, unethical and unaffordable too.
We can do much better. We can get better-informed for starters...we
can acquire better-informed, healthier perspectives and get organized
to direct better long-term solutions on our own...or we can attempt
to ignore the increasing signs of potential disaster.

Mainstream media could do a lot more for the public
interest by covering and prioritizing issues and news developments
that truly serve or seriously affect our common interests. Demanding
legitimate democratic elections, competent and accountable leaders,
realistic and sustainable policies, worker rights and consumer protections,
affordable health care and education, environmental stewardship
and more are all in the people's interest. And what we need now
is public media that points out facts that matter. Indie media resources
are key for introducing a range of credible sources typically absent
from corporate media. By offering a diversity of well-informed perspectives,
indie media allows for broader public understanding of the issues
presented. In contrast, corporate media outlets have a unique inherent
bias in a different direction as they are owned by people that have
extensive capital investments that often affect the scope, angle
and/or objective integrity of the news. Defined by their private
investment nature, corporate media companies hold investment interests
close to their chests and often define objective journalism in terms
of ulterior profit instead of public interest. This difference is
critical because the accuracy and depth of information we receive
in the news is a significant if not complete source of our knowledge
and understanding of what is going on in the world.
Without diversity in both the editorial content
and ownership of mainstream media, there is little hope for a well-informed
public capable of much compassion or understanding. It is the hope
here that the search for truth in media will make more sense as
well as the value of being a more active participant in everyday
events that continue to shape our collective will and understanding.
In other words, the ideals and active citizenship that define true
democracy and freedom should not be taken for granted, ignored or
forgotten if we want to maintain the integrity of our Constitution
and freedom of our people.

of the soul"
--- Ed Abbey
Btw, maybe money doesn't grow on trees, but sometimes
it grows on water (above). Until that happens in LA, this site will
also be used for personal business, potential employers and current
projects. I've been lucky to work with many talented people as a
freelancer in California since 1992 and hope to continue building
lasting relationships in the commercial entertainment and action
sports industries. (more)
Nomads Cafe is here for work and for play, to
further better stuff happening now as well as for the kids down
the line. Our common knowledge is evolving. And that changes everything.
Creative projects included. More updates happening soon. Thanks
for dropping in...
Happy holidays :)
